By Marvel, which entered a brand new era with Phase 4, started to do justice to its characters that did not come to the fore. Wanda, Falcon, Loki, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and of course, the neighborhood friend Spider-Man. Others were part of the Marvel adventure from the beginning, but Spider-Man later came into the story. With the failure of the Amazing Spider-Man project and its cancellation after the 2nd movie, a brand new Spider-Man was produced. Tom Holland got that chance.
Along with Civil War, he continued introducing himself with new Spider-Man solo films adorned the curtains with their webs. But as I wrote earlier, Homecoming was a serious failure for me. It was a project that turned the Spider-Man legend into Iron Man’s toy. For this reason, many spectators, including myself, were disturbed by this. But as time passes, young Peter Parker grows up too. Since dear Iron Man said goodbye to us, Peter has been standing on his own two feet, and, let me tell you, he is taking firm steps towards becoming the friend of the neighborhood we are looking for. No Way Home has finally brought us Spider-Man, a young, neighborhood-friendly guy living in the apartment everyone’s been waiting for.
After the series and movies, it became clear that Phase 4 would handle the Multi-Verse concept. Multi-Verse is an exciting idea because we’re talking about a series of universes with countless variables. Within these universes, there may be thousands of different models of the characters we have met before. From start to finish, those who have watched Spider-Man’s comic series in Jetix know that the Multi-Verse story was also covered there, and we encountered other Peter Parkers. Of course, starting from here, the biggest curiosity about the movie was “I wonder if we will see another Peter Parker.” In fact, none of us cared what the film was about and where it would tie. We only wanted to know if we would run into other Peter Parkers?
Before we talk about the movie, let’s briefly touch on one subject… Peter Parker becomes a world affair when Mysterio reveals Spider-Man’s identity. One afternoon, Peter, as famous as Charlie Chaplin, struggles with his accusers while grappling with those who brag about his heroism. Trying not to worry about the cameras, Peter gets angry when he gets rejected from MIT because of his mask. Then he looks for Doctor Strange. Peter, wants to cast a spell in which everyone forgets his identity. But his endless requests break Doctor Strange’s concentration. And because of that, the spell gives a blue screen, and “some” names from other universes enter Peter’s universe.
First of all, I want to congratulate Marvel. Not only did they make a fantastic Fan Service movie, they cleverly put together a 20-year corpus. The second Spider-Man was ridiculous for someone Tobey fan like me. Third, as I explained in my review of Homecoming, it was a big disappointment. However, with the idea of Multi-Verse, Marvel has eliminated the idea that one has ended and the other has begun by explaining that all movies are, in fact, a separate universe. In a word, genius. Whoever loves Peter can continue to love. Because they all exist, nothing new has come upon them; we can only say that we are guests of another universe.
Now let’s come to our main question: Are there other Peter Parkers in the movie? I’ve watched many good movies in 2021 and witnessed many amazing events. We have a Matrix adventure next week, but I have to say: I got goosebumps when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire walked through the portal. The whole theatre went crazy after that scene. It’s easy to say, I watched 19 years ago our friendly neighbor Spidey. I was 11 back then. Tobey, who has aged slightly but still has that sympathetic smile, and Andrew with his witty side. It was an indescribable feeling. It was priceless to see 3 different Spider-Mans simultaneously, watching them kick the enemy together. For this reason, we cannot thank Marvel enough. Even if it was 2.5 hours, I went back to the age of 11 and watched with admiration what happened on the screen.
The movie gives outstanding messages, with the old characters teasing each other. In this regard, the film is a complete Fan Service. Tobey’s constant saying “Amazing” for Andrew. Again Andrew cracking Tobey’s back, who was about to leave the second movie because of back pain. Electro says to Andrew, “maybe there is a black Spider-Man somewhere.” Many witticisms such as these managed to make the hall laugh from head to toe. But what intrigued me the most was that they got stuck in Tobey’s net throw. Those who watch the cartoon know that the Spider-Man character throws his web through capsules. The second and third Spidey is just like in the cartoons. On the other hand, our first love, Tobey’s Spider-Man, does not use capsules; the web comes out of his body. This situation was widely criticized at the time. The fact that the film constantly goes on this must have been a reference to the criticisms of that time.
The movie is good because although the characters have different characteristics, their motivations are simultaneous. For example, the first Spider-Man was more melancholic and had personal problems, while the second Spider-Man, Andrew, was wittier. The new Spider-Man, on the other hand, is still a child but continues to grow. But all characters try to be friendly to the neighborhood and are conscious of their responsibilities. But villains are not like that. They all have different motivations and are all trying to survive for certain purposes or seek harm. Only one among them is motivated by deep darkness: the Green Goblin. So it’s no surprise that Goblin, one of the purest villains in the pre-Joker era, is the movie’s main villain. Thanks to Willem Dafoe’s excellent acting, the film is taken to a very different point and level.
I also need to open a paragraph to Jon Watts. While watching the movie, I thought I was watching a Sam Raimi project. With a special focus on Spider-Man’s intuition, it gave us a feel like the first Spider-Man. The story could, of course, be improved. But the directing is definitely very successful. Jon Watts’ contribution is excellent in directing such an emotional film.
Bottom line… Spider-Man No Way Home marked the beginning of the Multi-Verse concept. Together with Loki, we understood we were in a Multi-Verse theme in the Phase 4 adventure. We have made the beginning of this concept with Spider-Man. Marvel has handled this debut so well that they deserve a round of applause for that alone. But the real story will start with Doctor Strange. After a short emotional marathon, the absolute chaos is in May next year. Before the mess, Marvel fulfilled a 19-year-old dream by processing the story from a place that will warm our hearts. Most likely, everyone left the theatre with a happy face. Because it was a beautiful, special movie for kids like us.
