Gilligan and Rhea Seehorn Are Coming to Save the World from Happiness

Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is making a magnificent return to television. Apple TV has released the official trailer for Gilligan‘s new series, Pluribus. In the lead is his old traveling companion Rhea Seehorn. The series will premiere worldwide on November 7, 2025 with its first two episodes; then it will continue with new episodes every Friday until December 26.

This nine-episode production is Gilligan‘s first major television project after Better Call Saul. Pluribus is described as a genre-crossing drama in which “the unhappiest person in the world” is, ironically, “forced to save humanity from happiness.” This unusual idea carries Gilligan‘s style — which masterfully blends dark humor and moral dilemmas — into the Apple TV universe.

Rhea Seehorn earned two Emmy nominations for her performance as Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul. This time, she’s at the center. The cast also includes Karolina Wydra (Sneaky Pete) and Carlos-Manuel Vesga (The Hijacking of Flight 601). Among the guest actors are Miriam Shor (American Fiction) and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death).

The series is a Sony Pictures Television production, and its producing lineup is like a full Gilligan-universe dream: Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, Diane Mercer, Allyce Ozarski and Jeff Frost serve as executive producers alongside Gilligan.

The trailer immediately conveys the distinctive tone Gilligan has carried from Albuquerque to the Apple stage: dark humor, pangs of conscience, strangeness and the dark mise-en-scène of human nature. But Pluribus carries the potential to be an existential drama that turns inside out what “salvation” means.

If Gilligan once again goes the way he knows, Pluribus looks set to ask the most absurd question of the modern age: “Does happiness really save us, or does it consume us?”
