Yazar According to a Variety exclusive, Focus Features has acquired U.S. and several international rights to Elsinore, starring Andrew Scott and Oscar winner Olivia Colman. The studio is preparing the film for a fall release.
Elsinore stands out as a biographical drama directed by Simon Stone. Per Variety, the acquisition came after a competitive process involving several studios, and Focus Features has begun positioning the film for awards season.
Written by Stephen Beresford, the film centers on the final months in the life of Scottish actor Ian Charleson, known for Chariots of Fire. The story follows Charleson taking on the role of Hamlet at London’s National Theatre while privately battling AIDS.
Andrew Scott plays Ian Charleson in the film and is also among its producers. Olivia Colman appears as the doctor who treats Charleson throughout his illness.
The cast also includes Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, Monica Dolan, Juliet Stevenson, Joe Locke, Adeel Akhtar, Matthew Beard, David Dawson, Kadiff Kirwan, Dickie Beau and Peter Mullan.
Focus Features is planning a festival premiere for the film, with Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York among the possible stops this fall. Elsinore is drawing attention as an awards-season contender that will largely be shaped around Scott‘s performance.
