According to Variety, a new trailer has been released for Dune: Part Three. Denis Villeneuve and Timothée Chalamet unveiled the most extensive footage yet from the trilogy’s final chapter at a special event in Los Angeles.
The trailer was unveiled as part of an IMAX fan event for the Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures film. Alongside the Los Angeles screening, simultaneous link-ups were held with events in Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal, London, Berlin, Mexico City and Abu Dhabi.
Dune: Part Three draws on Frank Herbert‘s novel Dune Messiah and focuses on the 17-year period following Dune: Part Two. The story follows the moral and political consequences of Paul Atreides seizing power as emperor.
The new footage also highlights Robert Pattinson‘s character, Scytale. Scytale is introduced as a shapeshifting enemy seeking to overthrow Paul, while the trailer also shows the tension between Chani and Paul, along with Duncan Idaho’s return as a ghola.
Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa and Anya Taylor-Joy are among the returning names. Hans Zimmer returns for the score, while cinematography duties this time fall to Linus Sandgren.
Villeneuve has previously described the third film as the most personal chapter of the series. Dune: Part Three arrives in theaters on December 18, set to bring Paul Atreides’ story to a grand close.
